Fun 2 Dive Scuba and Manatee Tours was established in March of 1995 by their owners Captains Joe and Judy Detrick along with Capt Bill Wilson. Fun 2 Dive Scuba and Manatee Tours is a family owned and operated outdoor adventure company that provides Swimming with the Manatees, Scuba Diving and Snorkeling. Both Joe and Judy are US Coast Guard Captains and have been married for over 28 years with 2 children and several grandchildren. Capt Bill which hold a master License from the US Coast Guard for almost 13 years and has been married for almost 20 years and has 2 children.

Our business is simple, we’re not out to make a million bucks. Our company was based on our interests and how we can get the most out of our life. We are outgoing people, fair and honest. We run our own tours and have 3 charter boats throughout Florida.  A few of our closest friends help us with training and charters.

Our Captains and Instructors has vast knowledge and extensive experience in Ecology, Scuba Diving, Snorkeling and Boating.

 

Captain Joseph Detrick  NAUI Instructor

AKA Capt. Joe, Manatee Joe, or Scuba Joe began diving in 1976 with the Armed Forces Recreational Services Europe (YMCA) and hasn’t stopped! Certified as a PADI Diver in 1990 with his wife Judy and became a NAUI Instructor in 1995. With a background in Mammal Marine Science coupled with 30 plus years of diving experience, Capt. Joe is far and above the “Local Expert” in this area. His formal training includes NAUI Instructor, SDI Instructor, TDI Instructor, IANTD Instructor and holds Certifications from PADI, YMCA, NACD and NSS/CDS.

 

Capt Bill Wilson / NAUI Dive Master

Captain Bill gained his love of the sea at an early age while being raised as a youth in the coastal city of Naples, Italy. It was natural for him to gravitate to a place like Florida, where Floridians are surrounded by water and sun. With a degree in Science, Captain Bill has studied the coral and limestone formations of Florida, and the behaviors of marine animals such as the Florida Manatee and octopus.

Captain Bill holds a United States Coast Guard Masters License, along with Dive Master and Cavern Diver certifications. He’s logged over two thousand hours of diving and has dived locations such as the submerged Roman city of Portus Julius in the Bay of Pozzuoli, the volcanic hot water fumaroles of St. Angelo, Ischia, and ancient wrecks off Taormina and Costasaracena in Sicily. Domestically, he dives on numerous coral reefs and wrecks in the Florida Keys, and explores the fresh water springs of Florida. Captain Bill operates dive and manatee charters with Fun 2 Dive Charters in Crystal River, FL and the Florida Keys

 

Capt Greg Dawson / NAUI Instructor

Dr. Dawson has been diving for 12 years.  He has well over 1000 dives in that time.  He has been a NAUI dive professional for seven years and a Scuba instructor for five years.  Dr. Dawson has been connected with Fun 2 Dive, Inc. since 2002 serving as a Coast Guard Captain, a Dive Master and Instructor.  He has conducted Manatee Tours at the Crystal River National Marine Sanctuary, and led dives throughout Florida.  As an Educator at Sea World he has put his Scuba Instructor to good use and taught classes that included dolphin trainers and marine mammal keepers.

Dr. Dawson personally has logged dives on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Vallarta and El Chimo, Mexico, The Great Lakes, the Bahamas and many reefs, wrecks and fresh water dives in his home state of Florida.

 

 

Capt Ken Lange / NAUI Dive Master

Capt. Ken has been diving since 2004 and working on Capt. Joe’s boats since 2005. He is a USCG Captain, Dive Master, and is Cavern certified with approximately 500 dives under his belt. Capt. Ken runs one of our manatee boat in Crystal River and our ocean boat in Key Largo, Florida. He also offers guided tours of the local springs and caverns during the summer months.

A graduate from the University of Central Florida with multiple degrees’ in business and accounting, Capt. Ken would prefer to be on the water than behind a desk. Capt. Ken is also an active Realtor in Florida at St. Johns Realty Company and handles anything from a simple single family transaction to complex commercial deals.
